NATIONAL LIST

Traditional dances and children`s games
The National List includes performance of Bulgarian folk dances baring the traces of genuine ancient local styles, without choreographic arrangements and contemporary foreign influences. Here also belong meaningful structured movements such as those typical for some children’s games. Special attention is paid to the dances and plays which are part of rite or feast complexes functioning as a part of the living village or town traditions and are thus sustained not only by amateur dance art groups. Of course, the latter does not refer to some amateur dance art practices specially aimed at the preservation of unique dance patterns. The items in the list follow a functional division – rite dances, feast dances and children games plays. The dances might also be: men’s, women’s or mixed group ones; performed with the accompaniment of a song or an instrumental piece; group and solo ones; performed at the local square, in the neighborhoods, out of the village, etc.
